Pinnacle Integrated Medicine’s ACO/VCO is a Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organization (ACO) and Value Care Organization (VCO). Pinnacle Integrated Medicine is one of the first registered B Corporations in the region. Pinnacle’s for-benefit cause is to reduce costs and improve quality across the continuum of care while allowing disparate healthcare organizations to maintain cultural and financial independence.
Pinnacle provides collaborative and accountable care system support to the ACO participant. The model involves health care initiative programs using the team approach with the patient at the center to provide resources for caregivers to offer enhanced and coordinated patient-centered medical home-directed care for patients. Our programs encompass prevention, standardization of evidence-based best practices, community-based care coordination, investments in health information technology, health information exchange, medication reconciliation, and reimbursement incentives for increasing the quality and efficiency of care for patient populations.

ACO FAQs
- When does the ACO begin?
- CMS has delayed the application period for a 2021 start date due to COVID-19. This will likely result in the application period reopening no sooner than late summer or early fall of 2020. The start date will therefore also likely be affected accordingly, possibly pushing it back to July 2021 or later.
- By when do I need to sign up for the ACO/VCO?
- The application cycle for a 2021 start date has been delayed by CMS. As a result, participation agreements will likely not need to be signed in June 2020 as would originally be required for a 2021 cycle beginning in January 2021. While CMS has not yet released information on when the next application cycle will open, having the ability for us to review participation agreements in advance will allow us to be better prepared at the time of opening.
- If I want to change ACOs, what is the process?
- At this time you don’t need to do anything. With the delay in the application period for the 2021 cycle, you can continue in your existing ACO if you choose. When the next application cycle opens we will let you know and, if at that time you want to make a change, you’ll need to let your existing ACO know that you don’t want to participate in the next available cycle.
- How are patients attributed to my practice?
- For the ACO, these are Medicare patients but attribution does not include Medicare Advantage patients. For the VCO, these are state Medicaid patients.
